Biography

António Soares dos Reis is a famous Portuguese sculptor. After attending the Porto School of Fine Arts, he moved to Paris and then Rome, where he produced his finest works in Carrara marble. On his return to Porto, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. Unfortunately, he committed suicide in his studio at the age of 41. António Soares dos Reis is now regarded as a major artist in Portuguese sculpture.
