Sculptor to Porto - Portugal
Portugal
Idalécio (born 1952) is a self-taught Portuguese artist from a small village in the Aveiro district. He began creating spontaneously in the country house where he grew up as an orphan, without any artistic pretensions or interest in revealing the collection he had accumulated throughout his life.
Pop and populist, surrealist and tropicalist, Idalécio draws as much inspiration from Portuguese folk art as from certain expressions of African tribal art, of which he is also a collector. His presence in the interior of Mozambique at the end of the 1970s during the war may well have been the source of this artistic influence.
