For once, we are offering you the opportunity to discover the eponymous photographic project of a single artist photographer, Benoit LAPRAY, through the MONUMENTS exhibition. It is also important to know that this project is the result of a collaboration with the 3D studio "95 Magenta" and the 3D graphic designer Emmanuelle Vonck. They were responsible for the modelling and texturing of the various characters present on the works.

The setting for this photographic series is Paris, this "museum city" that radiates throughout the world.

Here, frozen on huge stone pedestals, cult characters from popular culture are raised to the rank of "Monuments". The set photographs in this series were taken with medium format film cameras. The resulting negatives were then scanned and retouched to add 3D elements. The figures, which served as a basis for this work, were scanned in the studio using the photogrammetry process. This series is like a research laboratory on the image where old techniques are mixed with the most modern processes. It is a new way of looking at photography that will perhaps one day reconcile the purists and the avant-gardists of photography.

"The idea was to stage Pop Culture heroes by integrating them into the setting instead of the existing Parisian monuments. A way for me to pay homage to the creators of these characters who have inspired us and fed our imagination for decades."

This tour will take you through the streets and gardens of Paris in search of the original statues that have been modified in the artist's works.
