Marrakesh - Morocco
Morocco
The cornerstone of MACAAL was established at the Al Maaden Sculpture Park, sited at the heart of the Al Maaden Golf Resort, a luxury golf course community in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Inaugurated in 2013, it bears testimony to a long-term commitment in favour of artistic creation.
Following a call for projects, 13 Moroccan and international artists were invited to imagine in situ works, appropriating the space and challenges specific to the site in order to create works in resonance. From Morocco to China, by way of India, Egypt, and Argentina, the artists took over the land, rivalling their technical skill to create works up to 8 metres high and 12 metres long in harmony with the Al Maaden site. The dialogue between artists and this environment evokes situations created in the past by the Al Maaden land itself, or the expression of a latent energy, as if to mark the perpetual evolution that brings the site to life.
A visit to the Al Maaden Sculpture Park is laid out as a cultural stroll. Whether seated next to a cultural mediator in a golf cart or on a bicycle (available in self-service at the Museum’s entrance), the visitor is invited to experience a moment of relaxation combining art to nature; approaching art through enjoyment.
