Galerie Cardi, also known as Galleria Cardi, was founded in Milan, Italy, in April 1972 by Renato Cardi with the aim of supporting and promoting the work of modern and contemporary Italian artists. As early as the late 1960s, Renato had begun preemptively collecting works of art by these artists, many of whom were relatively unknown at the time. The collection he built up included names such as Cy Twombly, Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, and many others, and was enriched over the years with pieces ranging from Arte Povera to Spatialism.
Thanks to his unwavering passion for art and the success of Galleria Cardi, Renato has earned a reputation as a committed supporter of developing artists, playing a significant role in launching the careers of many talented individuals. Today, Renato's son Nicolo runs Cardi Gallery, continuing his legacy of influencing the cultural landscape of his home city of Milan, as well as London, his second home since 2015.
The gallery regularly presents a programme of museum-quality exhibitions, often accompanied by scholarly catalogues or artist monographs including texts by renowned international critics. Cardi Gallery also participates in major international art fairs in Asia, Europe and North America. Its exhibitions feature masterpieces by artists belonging to movements such as Arte Povera, Minimalism and the Zero Group, thus contributing to Cardi's important inventory of Italian modern, post-war and contemporary art.
Cardi Gallery's unique expertise in Italian modern, post-war and contemporary art, in particular Arte Povera, Minimalism and the Zero Group, has not only led to major exhibitions in collaboration with international museums, but has also helped to build some of the finest and most historically significant private collections in Europe, America and the Far East.
