Esco Ad Isola
Description

The EscoAdIsola.it project was born in May 2011, when the young volunteers from Nuova Acropoli began to think about how to improve the metro from the station that they had to pass through to reach their headquarters in the Isola district: in fact, the metro leading to platforms 14-20 is the direct route to the Milan district if you come from the station, where there are many shops and stops for local transport lines and the metro. Everyone approached the route with their heads down, walking quickly so as not to linger in this grey and unpleasant place. The idea, immediately welcomed with enthusiasm by the heads of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and Centostazioni of the FSI Group, was to return this place to the people, giving a unique opportunity to express their creativity and art to all those who wanted to give the city a little colour.

This is how the environmental redevelopment phase began, with the first call for artists on the theme of travel: "Travel unites people, cultures and places: nature, friendship, social integration and solidarity". The 21 works selected were thus able to be created along the wall adjacent to platform 20 and on the walls of the first section of the metro, which runs alongside the entrances to the tracks.

The second phase, which involved decorating the connecting section between the track entrance and the station, was the subject of two separate invitations to tender: a call to artists to create individual works and a call to Milan's art schools to tell a story on the entire wall. The new art gallery was thus joined by 13 works, inspired by the theme "Are you a little artist in life? "and by the story told by students at the Liceo Artistico Boccioni entitled "Turn off the TV and start thinking", the story of a man who moves from a dark and oppressive world to a world where there is no room for art, but where there is room for art and culture. the story of a man who moves from a dark and oppressive world to the cheerful and harmonious colours of nature.

The environmental redevelopment is completed by the transversal phase of the project, that relating to the EscoAdIsola.it space: a real corner where young emerging artists, associations and all those who want to get involved can offer to be part of the calendar of events to express themselves by animating the metro for an evening, making the passage more pleasant and safer thanks to participation and animation.

Finally, the third phase involved the outside, with the decoration of the Via Pepe exit and the creation of a real garden, colourful and imaginative, with the works selected as part of the competition entitled "Il Giardino dell'Isola". To mark the creation of the garden, the decorated metro was inaugurated in the presence of the authorities, and a small party was organised, with entertainment for the little ones and music for all, for all the residents of the district, who were able to celebrate their new-found little corner of the city.
