Nantes - France
France
After more than two centuries of existence, the Nantes Art Museum finds itself at the dawn of a new era. Beyond heritage rehabilitation, Sophie Lévy, director-curator, wants to make this new museum a lively and accessible place, open to the city and its inhabitants and to reveal its dimension as a great French museum.
To realize this ambition, the Nantes Museum of Arts team relies on three main axes:
A museum that sheds light on ancient painting through today's art
It is one of the artistic establishments to have remained uninterruptedly connected with the art of its time. And thanks to the acquisitions made continuously since the 1980s, it is one of the finest national collections of contemporary art.
A museum linked to the Americas
It makes a large part of the relationship, rich, old and very dense, with the Americas, by cultivating the link with these continents, both in terms of its collections, some of its exhibitions and some of its collaborations.
A city museum
Like the city of Nantes, the museum is turned towards a very rich past and an aspiration towards the present and the future. Exhibitions shed light, for example, on the role that Nantes may have played in the national or international history of art.
