Nusa Penida - Indonesia
Indonesia
Pura Goa Giri Putri is a temple built in one of the largest caves on Nusa Penida, accessible via a spiral staircase. "Goa' means cave, 'giri' means hill, 'putri' is a symbol of strength and 'pura' means temple. Pura Goa Giri Putri is therefore a very descriptive name for a temple built inside a cave on a hill and dedicated to Shiva. Shiva's role is to destroy the universe in order to recreate it. Along with Brahma and Vishnu, Shiva is part of the triumvirate responsible for creating, preserving and destroying the world.
After a donation (IDR 20,000 per person) and a quick purification ceremony, you can enter the temple. The priest will show you the entrance, which is not easy to find. Follow the path and wander around the various temples. The purification process takes place in each temple inside the cave and lasts around 2? hours, but you can go faster.
